A monument is defined as "a structure, such as a building or sculpture, erected as memorial" or "an object, such as a post or stone, fixed in the ground so as to mark a boundary or position."
Monuments frequently exceed the human body in scale or time; they are sturdy objects and when they fall it is a monumental event. Ephemeral materials and slapdash construction subvert a monument's function and question the significance of what it purportedly memorializes. I hope to raise the question: Are things falling apart?
